The School of Language Arts offers a range of programs to serve the needs of its students. It offers ESL programs for those wishing to improve English proficiency and degree programs for those wanting practical job skills.

English as a Second Language (ESL)
The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program at Hancock University emphasizes language proficiency in all skill areas (speaking, listening, writing, reading, and grammar) and provides students with an overview of American culture.

The goal of the Hancock University English as a Second Language (ESL) program is to increase the English language skills of non-native English speakers to the level needed for study at a college or university in the United States. We encourage students to reach this goal as quickly as possible.

Students participating in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at HCU take the courses as prerequisites for future academic courses, while others want to improve their English language skills for work, other college study, or personal satisfaction.

This program is for:
  • International students
  • Adults and professionals
  • International visitors (including visiting faculty and spouses)

Who want to:

  • Improve their English for travel, work, or international communication
  • Attend college or university in the USA
Program Objectives and Goals

The School of Language Arts offers 6 levels of study in our English as a Second Language (ESL) program. Each level has classes in pronunciation, reading, writing, listening and oral communication.
